LIZ CAPOTE
"I love the sensualness of these line drawings, their relationship to Surrealism and Arp, and the use of cheap and common materials such as cardboard and paper"

ARIAMNA CONTINO
"I was intrigued by the reference in my mind to the Old Cuba of the 1920's, the Castro Revolution and the gun culture and history of the Prohibition Era gangsters who peddled alcohol and prostitution such as Al Capone who partied and stayed in Havana. The gun is such a potent symbol of masculinity, of violence and power, which she relates to current issues with the drug trade in South America and Mexico. It's easy to forget that Cuba's demographic was and still is hugely multi-cultural"

Michel Pou Diaz
"The oldest artist within the exhibition, and a very political thinker. I loved his depiction of the crumbling infrastructure behind this Modernist very beautiful swimming pool. Again I was fascinated by his sense of the passing of time, history and the pathos of these empty unloved spaces"

ALEJANDRO GONZÁLEZ
"This image of a young boy relaxing on his bed reminded me of the great early works of Nan Goldin, and Peter Hujar. There is a homo erotic quality, along with a real understanding of adolescent hubris and that moment between childhood and adulthood"

Mari Claudia Garcia
"Like nearly all Cuban artists, Mari is staunchly political in outlook. The collages and embroidered works use photography, then beautiful watercolours and stitching - in a critical but humorous way"
