Abel Barreto Cuba, b. 1977

In the early stages of his career, Abel was interested in time, not understood as a chronological unit, but as an illusion, psychological obsession and human construction. Later, he directed his attention to the sound universe, especially to the nature of silence from the perspective of its physical and conceptual connotations. Lately, his artworks constitute a universe in themselves, exempt from the serial conception: strongholds of ephemeral moments apparently insignificant but eventful, associations of situations and elements with no direct connection to each other but which foster their own symbolic courses and evoke new meanings when integrated. He produces both paintings and sculpture, but his heart lies in the latter.
